Take Off Point
Take Off Point provides free public fishing and boating access to Lake Havasu, developed through the Lake Havasu Fisheries Improvement Program, a cooperative partnership. Take Off Point includes parking, restaurants and universally accessible fishing docks. A valid Arizona license is required for taking wildlife (including fish) in Arizona. Details are available at the Arizona Game and Fish License Page.
Accessibility Description (ABA/ADA)
The Take Off Point recreation area is a free day use area with two accessible sites–a boat launch and separate fishing piers. Both sites have plenty of accessible parking. Leashed service animals (and pets) are welcome at both locations.
The site at the end of the road has a wheelchair accessible boat dock/fishing pier, picnic table and accessible pit toilet. Please note that the ramp may not always be ADA-accessible due to water level fluctuations.
The other site has three individual accessible fishing piers, a shaded fish-cleaning station with tables and an accessible pit toilet. The parking lot, individual fishing piers, shade structure and toilet are connected by a walkway with interpretive signs describing the local and endangered fish species in the Colorado River that should not be caught. The pathway is on a downward slope from the parking lot to the fishing piers, which aren't visible from the parking lot. Be aware, also, that the slope from the piers to the toilet is a bit steep, so a person with mobility issues might need assistance.
From Take Off Point, visitors can access any of the 73 boat-in campsites along the Arizona shoreline; however, be aware that none of these campsites were designed to be wheelchair accessible.
Descriptions and photos uploaded October 2023. Please note that actual on-the-ground conditions may vary due to natural events (e.g., weather, wildfires, erosion), normal wear and tear, or site improvements.
