The Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument in Montana is a 375,000-acre landscape filled with history. Native American tribes such as the Blackfeet and Crow used this area to hunt bison and other animals; Lewis and Clark explored this area in 1805 while traveling the Missouri River; the Nez Perce people passed through this area in 1877 as they fled the Army, trying to make their way to Canada; homesteaders settled here in the early 1900s to try to build a life of ranching and farming.
