BLM New Mexico employee Jack Barnitz receives Linda Seibert Career Achievement Award

Jack Barnitz, a retired Supervisory Natural Resource Specialist at the Bureau of Land Management New Mexico Las Cruces District Office, has been selected as a recipient of the Linda Seibert Career Achievement Award. The award was presented March 10 during the North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference.

The award recognizes a current or retired BLM employee who has significantly contributed to the conservation of fish, wildlife, and/or botanic resources over the course of their career.

For over 33 years, Jack Barnitz has mentored and supported three AIM crews and provided guidance for the rare plant assessment program.

For over 33 years, Barnitz has mentored and supported three AIM crews and provided guidance for the rare plant assessment program. He contributed to the success of numerous productive partnerships, diligently promoted special status species and wildlife habitat conservation, and mentored many employees to become valuable BLM team members. Barnitz was known for his engagement with his staff and commitment to helping them expand their knowledge; stay current on new wildlife research, management, and conservation; and advance in their careers.

“While at the BLM, Jack was an exceptional wildlife biologist, supervisor and mentor, and he is sorely missed following his retirement,” said BLM New Mexico Acting State Director Melanie Barnes. “Congratulations to him on this outstanding achievement.”
