Event Description

The Deschutes Field Office (DFO) BLM in Prineville, OR has partnered with the Mule Deer Foundation on the Sanford Creek and Eagle Rock Winter Range Habitat Restoration Project. This NPLD event is a smaller portion of the larger project. Volunteers will help install a 100 yard ghost fence and gate that will help the DFO enforce the seasonal motorized winter range closure at Eagle Rock. The motorized closure is in place to protect wintering mule deer.

Work will include pounding in metal t-posts, rolling out three strands of smooth wire, clipping the wire at the appropriate height, digging post holes, installing H-braces or rock jacks, and installing a powder river gate.

Those interested in attending the project can reach out to Larry Ashton: lashton@blm.gov.
