VALE, Ore. – The John Day-Snake Resource Advisory Council (RAC) will meet Sept. 25-26 in Enterprise, Ore., and the public is welcome to attend both days.

RACs provide advice and recommendations for the Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service to consider when making natural resource and land management decisions. Each 15-member group consists of representatives from commercial, conservation and community interests, ranging from mining to environmental groups to state agencies.

“The RAC plays a very valuable role in public lands management by providing the BLM and Forest Service with critical input on activities throughout central and northeast Oregon,” Designated Federal Official and Vale District Manager Shane DeForest said. “We greatly appreciate the time this diverse group devotes to providing consensus-driven recommendations that enhance our decision making.”

A formal business meeting of the full RAC will take place Sept. 25-26 at the Wallowa County Fairgrounds, 668 NW 1st St., Enterprise, Ore., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. PT Wednesday, Sept. 25, and from 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. PT Thursday, Sept. 26.

The public is welcome to attend both meetings. Agendas will be posted at least 10 days prior to each meeting date: https://www.blm.gov/get-involved/resource-advisory-council/near-you/oregon-washington/john-day-rac. A public comment period will be offered each day. The amount of time for individual oral comments may be limited depending on the number of people wishing to comment.

The business meeting will include updates from the BLM’s Vale and Prineville Districts and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Wallowa-Whitman, Umatilla, Malheur, Ochoco, and Deschutes National Forests. Other agenda items may include management of energy and minerals, timber, rangeland and grazing, commercial and dispersed recreation, wildland fire and fuels, or wild horses and burros.
