LAS VEGAS — The Bureau of Land Management announced that the Mojave Southern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council (RAC) will host a field tour on February 5 and a public meeting on February 6 in Las Vegas. The RAC serves in an advisory capacity concerning issues relating to land use planning and the management of the public land resources located within the BLM’s Battle Mountain, Ely and Southern Nevada Districts. The field tour and meeting are open to the public.

“We look forward to a productive tour and meeting about current issues on public lands in the Battle Mountain, Ely and Southern Nevada Districts,” said Kim Liebhauser, Southern Nevada District Manager. “Resource Advisory Council meetings are very important opportunities for us to hear public input.”

Individuals participating in the February 5 field tour will meet at 8 a.m. PDT at the Southern Nevada District Office (4701 North Torrey Pines) and travel to Dry Lake Solar Energy Zone, Gemini Solar Project to view and discuss renewable energy projects. Then the group will travel to Logandale Trains to view and discuss recreation on public lands. The tour will conclude at approximately 3 p.m. PDT. Members of the public are welcome on field tour but must provide their own transportation and meals.

The February 6 meeting will be held in-person at the BLM Nevada Southern Nevada District Office, 4701 North Torrey Pines, Las Vegas, Nevada 89130, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Pacific. A virtual participation option will also be available. Agenda items include district updates, renewable energy updates, mining projects in each district and defining and promoting responsible recreation. A half hour public comment period will be held near the end of the meeting. The amount of time for individual oral comments may be limited depending on the number of people wishing to comment. The meeting agenda and meeting access information for individuals that prefer to participate virtually will be posted at least two weeks in advance of the meeting at https://www.blm.gov/get-involved/resource-advisory-council/near-you/nevada/mojave-southern-great-basin-rac.

The RAC is critical in assisting the BLM in continuing to be a good neighbor in communities served by the Bureau, providing advice and recommendations on issues including land use planning, fire management, off-highway vehicle use, recreation, oil and gas exploration, noxious weed management, grazing issues, and wild horse and burro herd management issues.
