BLM’s Upper Snake Field Office welcomes new manager

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho—The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Idaho Falls District welcomes John Reffit as the new field manager for the Upper Snake Field Office. His official starting date was Sep. 23.

“John Reffit brings a broad range of natural resource experience to the position, as well as strong leadership skills,” said BLM Idaho Falls District Manager Mary D’Aversa. “His collaborative focus on partnerships compliments the high level of public interest and engagement in eastern Idaho natural resources management. We are looking forward to having him aboard.”

Presently, John is the acting field manager at the BLM South Dakota Field Office. John has served as the monument manager at the BLM Pompeys Pillar National Monument, Mont. since 2017. John is a graduate of the BLM’s Leadership Academy (2020) and Line Officer Training (2024). John has also served in acting roles with the BLM Billings Field Office, including acting assistant field manager and acting field manager. John’s educational background includes a graduate certificate in natural resources from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, a bachelor’s degree in outdoor recreation from Ferrum College, Va., as well as an associate degree in forestry from Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, Va.

The Reffit family enjoys outdoor pursuits like hiking, camping, and riding bikes, as well as indoor activities that include family game night, movie night and going to the local theater for shows. “I am thrilled to be here and look forward to working with the staff and community partners to care for the diverse landscapes managed here in eastern Idaho,” said BLM Upper Snake Field Manager John Reffit. “The work we will do together will contribute greatly to our quality of life and community. This next chapter in my career will continue to deepen my passion for our Nation's public lands and I cannot wait to explore my new home on foot, by bike and by kayak!”

 The Upper Snake Field Office oversees more than 1.8 million acres of BLM-managed public land in southeastern Idaho.
