BLM seeks public input on draft business plan for Glennallen Field Office recreation site
Glennallen, Alaska – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is sharing a draft business plan for recreation fees for scenic outdoor areas within the 4.8 million acres of the BLM Glennallen Field Office. The public can review and comment on the plan until February 7, 2025. This draft includes changes from the October 2022 Recreation Fee Site Business Plan:
- Drive-in campsites from $15 per night to $20 per night.
- Walk-in campsites from $6 per night to $20 per night.
- Add an expanded amenity fee for reservation services across the field office.
- Future fee increases are tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
Information related to the recreation fee sites, proposed fee changes, operation and maintenance costs, planned expenditures, a financial analysis and potential impacts of fee changes can be found online at BLM’s Recreation Site Business Plans. This draft revises the bureau’s October 2022 plan to account for changes in the market, comparable fees, and to keep up with increasing maintenance and operations costs.
“We hope to hear from the public about the business plan,” said Acting Glennallen Field Manager Alysia Hancock, “the campground fees provide for restroom cleaning, maintenance and campground hosts.”
There is no proposed change to the current RV dump station expanded amenity fee for non-campers at Paxson Lake Campground which remains $10.
The Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act of 2004 requires that all fees collected from recreation sites be reinvested for services, maintenance, and improvements to the sites. Fees may be adjusted from time to time to reflect changes in costs, due to inflation, and to ensure a fair return for the use of public lands.
Public comments will be accepted through February 7, 2025, and may be submitted to Jake Masterfield at jmasterfield@blm.gov.
