BATTLE MOUNTAIN, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comments to inform development of a wild horse herd management area plan for the Callaghan Complex near Austin in Lander County. When developed and approved, the area plan will inform management decisions for how many horses the area can support and what, if any, methods of gathers and fertility control may be used.

The complex includes the Bald Mountain, Callaghan, Hickison Summit (north of U.S. Hwy. 50) and South Shoshone herd management areas. The total acreage of the complex includes approximately 1,145,515 acres.

Additional information, including a management evaluation, is available at the BLM National NEPA Register, where comments may be submitted through the “Participate Now” option (preferred). Comments with the subject line “Callaghan Complex” may be emailed to BLM_NV_BMDOwebmail@blm.gov. The comment period will close April 14, 2025.
