On Friday, September 27, 2024, the Bureau of Land Management's (BLMs) Lakeview District Office is hosting a National Public Lands Day event near Clover Flat from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year's project will plant seeds to reestablish bitterbrush in the 2021 Cougar Peak Fire scar.

“We will be seeding bitterbrush and riparian seed,” said Steven Vansi, BLM Outdoor Recreation Planner. “Bitterbrush is an important winter forage for mule deer and the riparian seed helps with bank stability and water absorption.”

Volunteers may meet at the Lakeview Field Office at 9:30 a.m. or the Klamath Falls Field Office at 8 a.m. and carpool to the work site. Parking is available at the corner of Clover Flat Road and USFS Road 3510, located at 42°30'0.19 "N, 120°26'49.90 "W. Bring sunscreen, snacks or lunch to sustain you for the day, water, a hat, leather gloves, eye protection, and sturdy shoes. Long sleeves and pants are highly recommended. Tools will be provided.

National Public Lands Day is the perfect hands-on opportunity to experience what the nation's public lands offer. Everyone is welcome to help restore, beautify, and improve the outdoor spaces and recreation areas we all benefit from and enjoy.
