Event Description
LAKEVIEW, Ore. — The Bureau of Land Management Lakeview District is hosting a star party on Saturday, June 1 at the Sunstone Public Collection Area. The star party will run from 10 p.m. to midnight. Sunstone is part of the Oregon Outback International Dark Sky Sanctuary.
Leading up to the star party, the BLM will host an introductory workshop on how to photograph the night sky. Join Kyle Sullivan, BLM public affairs and astrophotographer, on Friday, May 31 at 6 p.m. at the Lakeview Interagency Office, 1301 South G Street, Lakeview, OR to learn the basics of how and where to shoot the milky way. Bring your camera and learn about different settings to take the best night sky photos.
"We are very excited about our upcoming Star Party, which will highlight the amazing dark skies in Lake County,” said Lakeview District Manager Todd Forbes.
Both events are free and open to people of all ages.
If attending Saturday night’s star party remember to bring a red lights as white lights will spoil night viewing and ruin photographs. Due to the isolated location, visitors should be well prepared. The only facilities available at the site are a pit toilet and picnic tables. If planning on spending the night, you are welcome to camp anywhere within the Oregon Sunstone Public Collection Area. Bring your own chairs, blankets, bug spray, and other comfort items.
