BLM to commemorate Agua Fria National Monument 25th anniversary
PHOENIX – The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Hassayampa Field Office will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Agua Fria National Monument and the National Conservation Lands in 2025. The BLM will plan special events throughout the year.
“The Agua Fria National Monument is a rich cultural and biological landscape located just outside of Phoenix,” said Field Manager James Holden. “We hope that these events will encourage public participation and enjoyment of their National Conservation Lands. These events will provide a variety of experiences for people of all ages and abilities.”
Events will highlight specific resources, features and management of the national monument, as well as the BLM’s and its partners’ work on the landscape. Event announcements will be posted on the BLM Arizona webpage and on social media platforms.
The Agua Fria National Monument is about 40 miles north of Phoenix along Interstate 17. The monument was established by presidential proclamation on Jan. 11, 2000. It contains one of the most significant systems of prehistoric sites in the American Southwest as well as a variety of historic areas.
In addition to the rich record of human history, the monument contains outstanding biological resources. The area is the home to coyotes, bobcats, antelope, mule deer, javelina, a variety of small mammals and songbirds. Eagles and other raptors are also a draw for birdwatchers. Hiking, viewing cultural sites, wildlife viewing, hunting, scenic drives, and four-wheel driving are among the activities available on the monument.
