Black Rock Field Office Hosts 2024 National Trails Day Event with Partner Groups

Winnemucca, Nev. - In celebration of National Trails Day, the Black Rock Field Office, in cooperation with Friends of Nevada Wilderness (FNW), Stewards of Black Rock Desert (SBRD) and Friends of Black Rock-High Rock (FBRHR), is hosting a National Trails Day event in the Black Rock Desert-High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area (NCA). The event is scheduled to take place at Stevens Camp on Saturday, June 1, 2024. Participants are encouraged to camp with agency staff and partner groups through the weekend of Friday, May 31 – Sunday, June 2.

The celebration will begin Saturday morning with breakfast and a safety briefing provided by FNW, followed by service projects performed in and around Stevens Camp and Upper High Rock Canyon. Projects include trail maintenance, fire ring installation, and general cabin repairs and cleanup. Participants are responsible for lunch, snacks, and water for the duration of the event. The afternoon will conclude with an optional educational walk with agency staff and FBRHR, followed by dinner and dessert provided by FNW and SBRD. Breakfast will also be provided Sunday morning. All tools and necessary equipment needed to perform service projects will be provided.
