Graphite is well known for its use in pencils (yep, no actual lead in your No. 2 pencil anymore), but did you know it’s also an important component in lithium-ion batteries, too? It’s also a super light and strong material that’s used in all sorts of things -- even solar panels and brake pads.
In northwest Alaska lies a huge graphite deposit that could supply the entire nation’s graphite needs.
