CODY, Wyo. – The Bureau of Land Management and FishingCommunity.org will host the Hogan/Luce Veterans Family Fishing Classic on June 1 at the Hogan/Luce Recreation Area near Cody. The event is free of charge and open to all veterans, their families and the public.

“We hope veterans and their family members will join us for a fun day to fish, canoe or kayak, and celebrate veterans and public lands,” said Rick Tryder, BLM outdoor recreation planner. “Thank you to our partners and the Cody community for supporting this worthwhile event.”

The event will run from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. Activities will include shore fishing, fishing instruction, kids activities and the chance to check out the recent improvements at Hogan/Luce that make the site more accessible for people with disabilities, including accessible picnic tables, fire rings, bear boxes and other upgrades.

All fishing equipment will be supplied and lunch provided for veterans and their families. The event is the same day as the State of Wyoming’s annual free fishing day—part of National Fishing and Boating Week—so fishing permits are not required.

Fisheries for Veterans Project, a partnership between FishingCommunity.Org and the BLM, uses America’s public lands to provide recreational, educational and job training opportunities, and provides rehabilitation and healing capacities for veterans and families. This partnership, and the Hogan/Luce event in particular, supports the BLM’s commitment to increase access for hunting, fishing and recreation on public land.

To reach the Hogan/Luce Recreation Area, travel 18 miles north of Cody on Wyoming Highway 120. Turn west onto Park County Road 7RP and continue approximately 5 five miles to the Hogan/Luce Trailhead sign.
