Las Vegas –The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Red Rock/Sloan Field Office will host an open house on the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area Implementation Management Strategy as well as initiate scoping on projects proposed to be completed by the end of the year. The open house will be held on May 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Levi Strauss & Co. located at 501 Executive Airport Drive in Henderson.
The open house will begin with a short presentation at 6:15 p.m. Participants will then meet with BLM specialists and partners to answer questions. Representatives from the City of Henderson and Friends of Sloan Canyon will be present. Written comment forms will be available for the proposed 2015 projects.
On April 30, BLM released the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area Implementation Management Strategy which provides new management scenarios that meet the intent of the Resource Management Plan as well as projected visitation with an emphasis on extending the life of the special account funding. Based on public input, the immediate priority is to improve access to Petroglyph Canyon. By the end of 2015, the goal is completion of an access road, installation of a temporary visitor contact station and added amenities (vault toilet, kiosk, increased parking). The implementation strategy serves as a recommendation document rather than a decision document. Decisions will involve public comment through National Environmental Policy Act documents and Resource Advisory Council consultation.
Before including your address, phone number, e-mail address, or other personal identifying information in your comment, you should be aware that your entire comment – including your personal identifying information – may be made publicly available at any time. While you can ask us in your comment to withhold your personal identifying information from public review, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so.
Copies of the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area Implementation Management Strategy can be found online. For additional information about the meeting, please call the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area at (702) 515-5350.
