September Trails Center trek explores Devil's Gate

CASPER, Wyo. – Hit the trail this Saturday, September 10 with the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center and explore the historic site, Devil’s Gate. Located 65 miles west of Casper, Devil’s Gate is a natural rock formation carved by the Sweetwater River and was the next major landmark along the historic trails following Independence Rock.
Participants will depart from the Trails Center parking lot at 8 a.m. and return mid-afternoon. Trekkers will have the opportunity to hike into the gate, explore the area, and listen to pioneer stories about the landmark from Trails Center experts.
Hiking is required and participants can expect to walk across rough terrain while also crossing through the Sweetwater River to get into Devil’s Gate. Please come prepared with appropriate footwear and clothing, as well as food, water, and sunscreen. Transportation to the site will not be provided. Carpooling is encouraged, and four-wheel drive, high-clearance vehicles are recommended.
