Las Vegas – In celebration of the BLM’s 70th anniversary and the #YourLandYourStory campaign, BLM will have 750 free commemorative vintage-style postcards depicting Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area available on a first come, first served basis at the Red Rock visitor center.

80 free postcards of the other National Conservation Lands within the BLM will be available.

In coordination with the staff at the app Steller, BLM is inviting followers to create their Steller stories using #YourLandYourStory.  Followers can also contribute their photos of the locations featured in the vintage-inspired posters in a moderated BLM National Flickr group. After review for appropriateness, photos will be added to the group and may be used to create of Steller book with user photos for each location.  A final Steller book of contributed photos will be posted to the BLM National Steller account and promoted by Steller over Memorial Day weekend.

Congress designated Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area in 1990 as Nevada’s first National Conservation Area (the seventh to be designated nationally). Today, the area is part of the Bureau of Land Management’s National Landscape Conservation System (also known as National Conservation Lands).

The National Conservation Lands encompass more than 30 million acres of specially designated places under the stewardship of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

More than 870 areas, including national monuments, national conservation areas, wilderness areas, wilderness study areas, wild and scenic rivers, and national scenic and historic trails make up this collection of notable places. They are an important part of the 245 million acres of public lands and 700 million acres of subsurface mineral estate that the BLM manages for multiple uses and a sustained yield of resources, such as energy, minerals, forage, timber, and recreation.

In the BLM Southern Nevada District, National Conservation Lands include Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area, Old Spanish Trail, 15 designated wilderness areas and four wilderness study areas.

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. Our mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
