MOAB, Utah – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is seeking public comment on a proposal to drill an oil and gas well in northern San Juan County, Utah. The proposed well pad is located on public lands approximately 1.7 miles southeast of Looking Glass Rock. Wesco Operating, Inc. revised their initial proposal to avoid accessing the well site via a county road through the Wilson Arch community, which lies north of the project area.

“The BLM is committed to responsible energy development and responding to people’s concerns,” said Moab Field Manager Nicollee Gaddis-Wyatt. “Based on the public scoping input we received last fall, we were able to work with the operator and San Juan County to develop an alternate access route from the south to lessen potential impacts to the local community.”

The environmental assessment (EA) also considers concerns raised by the public, such as water quality and visual quality, and includes resource protection measures to minimize potential impacts.

The EA is available for review and comment on the BLM’s ePlanning project webpage at: https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/home. Please submit your comments by October 18, 2019, one of the following ways:
