ELKO, Nev. --. The Bureau of Land Management, Tuscarora Field Office has prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA) to analyze the impacts of installing a new radio repeater site on Pinon Mountain. The proposed site is located approximately 25 miles southwest of Elko, Nevada and approximately 16 miles south of Carlin, Nevada. The 15-day review period begins May 20 and ends June 3.
The Proposed Action includes installing a pre-assembled communications shelter to support communications for the BLM field going staff and wildfire suppression activities in the area. The shelter is a new, self-contained and self-supporting unit with four leveling legs, roof-mounted solar panels and a 20’ monopole tower attached. Installation would include placement of four pre-made concrete blocks on the ground surface (no ground disturbance) and securing the shelter by bolting the legs to the concrete blocks. The site would be operational year round and would have a life span of approximately 20 years.
During the 15-day review period, the Tuscarora Field Office welcomes the submission of any comments, data or information related potential issues, impacts and alternatives that should be addressed in the EA. BLM will issue a decision following the 15-day review period. The deadline for comments related to this proposed action is June 3, 2019.
Written comments should be mailed to the BLM Tuscarora Field Office, Attn: Elisabeth Puentes, 3900 East Idaho Street, Elko, NV 89801, emailed to TuscFO_NEPA@blm.gov; or faxed to (775) 753-0325.
