FILLMORE, Utah – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Little Sahara Recreation Area Visitor Center will reopen on Sunday, August 18, 2019, for the late-summer and fall visitors. Located less than two-hours from the Wasatch Front, Little Sahara offers outstanding off-highway vehicle and camping opportunities in “Utah’s Largest Sandbox”.
A day-use fee of $18 per vehicle or the display of an annual pass is required for entry. The day-use fee can be paid via the fee station’s self-pay tubes, located at the entrance to the recreation area or in the visitor center. Annual passes are available for purchase at the BLM Fillmore and Salt Lake Field Offices, as well as the visitor center. Starting on August 18, the visitor center will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m Thursday through Monday. The visitor center will be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Little Sahara is well-known for the 700-foot Sand Mountain and the stunning views on Sunset Hill. Visitors are encouraged to stay in one of the four campgrounds within the recreation area. Vault toilets, flush toilets, and the flush/dump stations will remain open throughout the fall.
Although the recreation area does not provide all services, the surrounding cities of Nephi and Delta are full-service communities. These nearby communities offer a full complement of fuel, groceries, hotels, medical facilities, OHV supplies, and other amenities.
The BLM encourages the public to take all appropriate safety measures – including riding with a partner, using protective equipment, and following best practices for heat safety. Staff will continue to patrol the recreation area, however, visitors should call 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency. Non-emergencies should be reported to the Juab County Sheriff’s Office at 435-623-1626. Requests for additional information or reports of maintenance-related issues should be made to BLM Outdoor Recreation Planner Jay Cram at 435-433-5960 or 801-971-6592.
