MOAB, UT— The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Moab Field Office is seeking comments on the Lisbon Valley Mining Company Plan of Operations Modification for a 30-day public comment period on Sept. 29, 2020 and ending on Oct. 29, 2020.
Lisbon Valley Mining Company (LVMC) in San Juan County, Utah intends to modify its Plan of Operations to include a traditional open-pit copper mine with a heap leach pad, solvent extraction, and electrowinning processing plant. The proposal will modify the current plan to incorporate best management practices for reclamation of waste dumps and the heap leach operation. The current proposal would be implemented in phases and allow for an additional 28 acres of mining within the previously approved 4,480-acre mine plan boundary. The proposed activities are entirely within existing mine boundaries.
“The BLM appreciates this company practicing responsible mining while considering other resources and uses to fulfill our multiple-use mission,” said Moab Field Manager, Nicollee Gaddis-Wyatt. “We strive to make well informed decisions and we welcome public comments on the Plan Modification to gather all the information needed.”
Written comments may be mailed, emailed, or submitted through ePlanning. Written comments will be accepted by letter or email until October 29, 2020. Please note that the most useful comments are specific and contain new technical or scientific information relevant to the proposed action. Comments which contain only opinions or preferences will not receive a formal response but may be considered in the BLM decision-making process.
