LAS VEGAS — The Bureau of Land Management Southern Nevada District will hold a virtual information forum to involve the public in the early stages of a proposed Recreation Area Management Plan for the La Madre Foothills area of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.
The Red Rock/Sloan Field Office is in the initial stages of identifying issues for the plan and invites the public to submit comments. The plan would guide future development and provide management direction for recreation resources within the La Madre Foothills area, located in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area on land north of Calico Basin to Kyle Canyon Road and east of the La Madre Mountain Wilderness. The plan will analyze public access to the NCA and balance recreation opportunities with resource protection.
"The La Madre Foothills area has an estimated 30 miles of unsanctioned singletrack trail, several limestone rock climbing areas, and a number of motorized roads and trails,” said Jon Prescott, BLM Outdoor Recreation Planner for the project. “Suburban housing development at Skye Canyon and Cliff Shadows is increasing recreation pressure on the area, and the recreation area management plan will analyze public access to the NCA and balance recreation opportunities with resource protection. This planning effort will also set management goals and directions for future land use planning decisions to be made."
The information forum will be held online on May 3, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m. Pacific Time. Registration for the forum is available at https://blm.zoomgov.com/webinar/register/WN_diYUyyv5STW5SbWM7sIowg. Those unable to attend the meeting, or wish to provide comments later, may email BLM_NV_RRCNCA_LMFRAMP@blm.gov until May 25, 2023, at 4:30 p.m.
