(ENNIS, Mont.) – Even as winter snows still cover much of the landscape and ice coats many of the area’s lakes, now is the time to start thinking of summer and autumn getaways to the Bureau of Land Management’s cabin perched on a hill above Axolotl Lake.

Reservations for September and October 2017 begin March 15 at 8 a.m. Mountain Time. For online reservations go to the recreation.gov site at http://1.usa.gov/1SlX6RA

The cabin, which costs $75 per night, is open for reservations from May 25 to Oct. 10, with Oct. 9 being the last night to reserve the cabin. The booking window for the cabin was originally intended to open for the entire season on March 1 but a technical glitch delayed those electronic reservations. The remainder of the dates in September and October will now become available to book on March 15.

Axolotl Cabin is located 14 miles southwest of Ennis in the foothills of the Gravelly Range—a  picturesque landscape of small lakes, grasslands, meadows, and forests which offer opportunities for horseback riding, hiking, fishing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, mountain biking, hunting and wildlife viewing.
