SALT LAKE CITY—The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will hold a meeting of the Utah Resource Advisory Council (RAC).  The public is welcome to attend the meeting on June 17-18, 2019, at the Kanab High School, 59 E. Cowboy Way, Kanab, Utah 84741.  On June 17, the RAC will meet from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.  On June 18, the RAC will meet from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The BLM maintains 38 chartered advisory committees located in the West.  Advisory committees provide advice and recommendations on public land resource and management issues.  Advisory committees are sounding boards for BLM initiatives, regulatory proposals, and policy changes.  Each citizen-based committee consists of 10 to 15 members that represent diverse interests present in the local community. Advisory committees are critical in assisting the BLM in continuing to be a good neighbor in the communities that we serve.

Planned agenda items at the meeting include selecting a new chairperson; review of the Utah RAC charter; BLM statewide updates and planning updates; an overview to, and soliciting information and advice from the RAC regarding the development of the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument and Kanab Escalante Planning Area Resource Management Plans and Environmental Impact Statement; and discussing recreation business plans for Cedar Mesa and the Richfield Field Office.

“RAC members provide valuable advice and perspectives on resource and land management issues in Utah” said Ed Roberson, BLM Utah State Director.  “Their input enhances the BLM’s ability to manage these lands for current and future generations of Americans.”

The public may address the RAC from 9:45-10:15 a.m. on June 18.  The BLM may also extend the comment period by 30 minutes to 10:45 a.m.  Depending on the number of people wishing to comment and time available, the amount of time for individual oral comments may be limited.  Written statements to address the RAC may also be sent to BLM Utah State Office, 440 West 200 South, Suite 500, Salt Lake City, Utah 84101 or via email to BLM_UT_External_Affairs@blm.gov with the subject line “Utah RAC Meeting.”
