WINNEMUCCA, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management Humboldt River Field Office is seeking public input during the development of the Winnemucca Sand Dunes Recreation Area Management Plan. The RAMP will address items like recreation, visitor services, long-term goals and maintenance. BLM recreation planners will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 9, 2019 at the entrance of WSD to collect input from the public to consider in the plan.

In addition to comments on the RAMP, the BLM is also interested in comments related to grant funding from the Nevada OHV Commission awarded to BLM’s partner, Northern Nevada ATV, for new recreation amenities and facilities at the WSD. Amenities may include picnic tables, trash receptacles, shade shelters and informational/interpretive kiosks. The grant projects will be incorporated into the RAMP.

“The BLM values our partnership with Northern Nevada ATV and looks forward to the development of the Winnemucca Sand Dune project,” said Winnemucca District Manager Ester McCullough. “We welcome and encourage public input before making decisions that affect public lands.”

The WSD is a low-lying sand dune complex in Humboldt County that stretches approximately 40 miles east to west. The area has historically been a popular destination for off-roading recreation, along with camping and (fat tire) mountain biking. To get to the WSD from Winnemucca travel north on U.S. 95 for approximately 8 miles, then turn left across the cattle guard approximately 850 feet past McRae Road on the right.

For more information on the WSD RAMP call Gabby Lukins at 775-623-1704. If you are unable to attend the event, comments can be mailed to: Attn. WSD RAMP, Winnemucca District Office, 5100 East Winnemucca Blvd. Winnemucca, NV 89445 by Nov. 15, 2019.
