ST. GEORGE, Utah—The BLM invites the public to provide input on a new 52.15-acre outdoor adventure park and improved trailhead for the Bureau of Land Management’s Santa Clara River Reserve through a proposed lease of BLM-managed land to the city of Santa Clara.
“This proposal is at the heart of the principle of making America great through the shared conservation stewardship of our land. The BLM, in line with Administration priorities, is committed to serving the American family by being good neighbors and supporting traditional land uses,” said Ahmed Mohsen, the District Manager for the BLM’s Color Country District. “These priorities are reflected in the St. George Field Office’s proposal, which were initiated by the city and supported by the county.”
The city’s proposal includes a disc golf course, hiking trails, bicycle riding skills (pump) track, climbing boulders, pavilions and interpretive stations. The park would also serve as a new trailhead for the reserve, adding bathrooms and parking.
The proposal was announced March 19, 2018 in the Federal Register, kicking off a final 45-day comment period. If there are no valid objections, the BLM will move forward with the lease and eventually a patent to transfer 52.15 acres to the city.
Information concerning the lease/conveyance, including planning and environmental documents are available for review during business hours, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mountain Time, Monday through Friday, at the BLM St. George Field Office, except during Federal holidays, or online at https://go.usa.gov/xQqHG.
The public review and comment period closes at 4:30 p.m. on May 3, 2018. Please note that the most useful comments are those that identify issues relevant to the proposed action or contain new technical or scientific information. Comments that contain only opinions or preferences will not receive a formal response, but may be considered in the BLM decision-making process. Please reference the “Santa Clara South Hills Recreation Park Lease” when submitting comments. Comments may be mailed, hand delivered, or faxed.
