BLM seeks public comment on Washington County Landfill expansion proposal

ST. GEORGE, Utah—Washington County could receive 55 acres to extend the life of its landfill by as much as 25 years through a proposal to transfer Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land to the county.
“This proposal is an effort by the BLM at the request of Washington County to help identify ways to support the local community,” said Ahmed Mohsen, BLM’s Color Country District Manager. “This is a proposal that affects balance and multiple use.”
If there are no valid objections to the proposal, the BLM will move forward with the conveyance.
Information concerning the conveyance, including planning and environmental documents, are available for review during business hours, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mountain Time, Monday through Friday, at the BLM St. George Field Office (except Federal holidays), or online at https://go.usa.gov/xQq6N.
The public review and comment period closes at 4:30 p.m. on May 3, 2018. Please note that the most useful comments are those that identify issues relevant to the proposed action or contain new technical or scientific information. Comments that contain only opinions or preferences will not receive a formal response, but may be considered in the BLM’s decision-making process. Please reference the “Washington County Landfill” when submitting comments. Comments may be mailed, hand delivered, or faxed. The BLM will not consider comments received via telephone calls or email.
