GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The Bureau of Land Management Grand Junction Field Office invites the public to review and provide input on the draft Old Spanish Trail Recreation and Development Strategy. The July 10 open house will be from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Museum of the West in Grand Junction, 462 Ute Avenue.

“Continuing to collaborate with our partners and hearing from the community is vital as we chart the trail’s future,” said Katie Stevens, BLM Grand Junction Field Manager.

The strategy will guide the BLM and its partners on future efforts to improve, interpret and utilize the Old Spanish Trail. The strategy identifies potential projects to help the public discover and experience the Old Spanish Trail through Mesa and Delta counties.

“This effort certainly brings the Old Spanish Trail to life in this part of Western Colorado,” said Vicki Felmlee, President of the Old Spanish Trail Association.  “We’ve been working on this trail segment for several years and we’re grateful that it is receiving such great attention.”

Established by Congress as a National Historic Trail in 2002, and jointly managed by the BLM and the National Park Service, the Old Spanish Trail spans 2,700 miles over six states and highlights area history and recreational opportunities.
