CASPER, Wyo. - The Bureau of Land Management is hosting a public meeting and educational seminar on Oct. 26, 2017 at 9 a.m. to provide information on the National Historic Preservation Act. Specifically, the discussion will focus on BLM’s legal obligations with regard to tribal consultation during the oil and gas permitting process on public lands as well as split- estate. This is part of BLM’s commitment to review and streamline its business processes to serve its customers and the public better and faster.
The BLM manages 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate nationwide, including roughly 58 million acres where the surface is privately owned. Policy directives give the BLM the authority and direction for administering the development of federal oil and natural gas resources beneath privately owned surface. Throughout the process, the BLM, the operator and the private surface owner have rights, responsibilities and opportunities. This meeting will be to discuss how tribal consultation fits into that process.
The presentation will take place at the BLM office, 2987 Prospector Drive, Casper, Wyoming. There will be time allowed for questions. The BLM welcomes and values your diverse views. For more information, call 307-261-7600.
