The Bureau of Land Management is holding an open house and taking public comments on an Environmental Assessment for the realignment of the entrance to the Campbell Tract.
To improve safety at the entrance to the Campbell Tract, the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is proposing to relocate the entrance to align with the intersection of East 68th Ave. An upgrade to the intersection to accommodate the new entry is also planned.
The open house will be held Thursday Aug. 9, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the BLM Anchorage Field Office at 4700 BLM Rd.
The new entrance road would begin at the intersection of East 68th Ave. and end near the Smokejumper Trailhead parking lot, where the current BLM Road and Science Center Drive intersect. In addition, the proposed action includes the clearing of approximately three acres of vegetation, expansion of the existing Smokejumper Trailhead parking lot, and construction of a new trail from the northeast corner of Elmore and BLM roads to intersect with the Moose Track Trail. The construction, which will take place in 2019, will require a temporary re-routing of the Moose Track and Lynx trails and temporary closure of the Smokejumper Trailhead parking lot during expansion.
Comments on the proposal will be accepted through Aug. 24, 2018. Please submit comments through the project website at https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/home. Using the “Advanced Search” function, enter Alaska and Anchorage in the location fields and enter NEPA number: DOI-BLM-AK-A010-2016-0025-EA.
