Billings Field Office to burn slash piles in Central Montana

(Billings, Mont.) – The Bureau of Land Management Billings Field Office is slated to burn several slash piles on BLM-managed land in Yellowstone, Mussleshell and Carbon counties and Big Horn County in Wyoming during the upcoming winter months.
The slash pile burns are planned for the following areas, and will take place as weather permits.
- Horsethief Road, west of Roundup, and Rehder Creek road, south of Roundup, in Mussleshell County
- Pompeys Pillar National Monument in Yellowstone County
- Four Dances Recreation Area in Yellowstone County
- Sheherd Ah Nei Recreation Area in Yellowstone County
- Meeteetse Cabin near the Meeteetse Spires in Carbon County
- Near Britton Springs on the south end of the Pryor Mountains, located in Big Horn County, Wyoming
Crews will burn slash piles and reduce fuels in and around urban interfaces. Fuels conditions will be monitored closely by firefighters.
During slash pile burning activity, visitors should use caution when in the areas to ensure public safety, as well as the safety of the firefighters conducting operations.
