Public Input & Actions

BLM publishes proposed and final rules in the Federal Register and carries out environmental reviews in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act. Announcing and explaining bureau plans and proposals and providing the public an opportunity to comment on proposed actions is an important part of informed management. We encourage citizens to make their voices heard on the issues that are important to them.

The BLM plans public safety measures for 2026 King of the Hammers race

The Bureau of Land Management will temporarily close public lands in the Johnson Valley Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area in San Bernardino County from Jan. 29–Feb. 7, 2026, during the annual King of the Hammers desert race event. The race is authorized by a BLM Special Recreation Permit, and the temporary closure is necessary for public safety and to provide an enhanced recreation experience for event participants and spectators.

BLM approves Dry Piney helium and carbon sequestration project

The Bureau of Land Management today approved the Dry Piney helium and carbon sequestration project planned on public, private, and state lands near LaBarge in Sublette County. The project is estimated to be capable of producing more than 800 million cubic feet of bulk liquid helium per year from subsurface mineral estates.
