Salt Lake City, Utah—The Bureau of Land Management Salt Lake Field Office (SLFO) announces a 30-day public comment period beginning September 29, 2016, and ending on October 30, 2016, for the Cedar Mountain Wild Horse Herd Management Area (HMA) Capture, Treat and Release (Fertility Control with Limited Removal) Plan and Determination of NEPA Adequacy (DNA). The BLM is currently soliciting public comments to be considered prior to the finalization of the DNA.
The SLFO is proposing to gather the horses on the Cedar Mountain HMA. If approved, this gather could occur in February 2017. The proposal is to gather an estimated 600 horses. A total of 200 horses would be removed and placed in the adoption program, and 400 horses would be returned back to the HMA. Of the mares released back onto the HMA, roughly 200 would be treated with the fertility control vaccine Porcine Zona Pellucida – 22, commonly known as PZP-22.
The project is located in Township 1 - 7 South and Range 8 - 12 West, various sections, Salt Lake Base and Meridian, in Tooele County, Utah.
