Event Description
CALIENTE, Nev. – The public is invited to participate in a National Public Lands Day event scheduled Saturday, Sept. 28. Participants will work with Bureau of Land Management staff to install signs welcoming visitors to the Basin and Range National Monument. Signs will be erected on the Monument’s northern, western and southern boundaries.
“This is a great opportunity for the public to work with us to better public lands in Nevada. Public involvement is a vital part of protecting the lands that we all enjoy,” said Outdoor Recreation Planner Michael Irving. Irving encouraged participants to bring food and water, and work gloves. He said tools and materials will be provided. All participants will receive a free NPLD tee shirt.
NPLD is a success nationwide because of the collaboration between federal, state and local agencies, private organizations and individual volunteers. The event is spearheaded each year by the National Environmental Education and Training Foundation and is considered one of the largest single day volunteer efforts in the nation.
