Dillon, Mont. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is requesting public comments regarding proposed increases to existing camping fees and the initial implementation of per-person day use fees at BLM recreation sites along the Madison River corridor. The comment period will conclude on September 18, 2024.

This initiative will help address staffing needs and ensure public safety and sanitation in response to significant increase in visitation to the Madison River corridor.

The proposed fee adjustments are authorized under the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act of 2004 (FLREA) and aim to enhance staffing capabilities, improve resource management, and support upgraded visitor amenities and safety measures.

BLM will present a summary of the comments to the Resource Advisory Council (RAC) and request a final recommendation of the fee proposal from the RAC on September 24, 2024.

The BLM is committed to engaging the public in this process and encourages feedback through various channels. Comments can be submitted via the ePlanning website, by email at BLM_MT_Dillon_FO@blm.gov, or by mail to the Dillon Field Office, 1005 Selway Drive, Dillon, MT 59725. Before sharing your address, phone number, email, or other personal information in your comment, be aware that it may be publicly available. Anonymous comments will not be considered.

Increased fees will also allow staff to complete deferred maintenance projects that will enhance visitor experiences through improved facilities such as pavilions, drinking water systems, and parking areas. Additionally, the Dillon Field Office will implement a more effective fee collection system, including on-site digital payment options to provide greater convenience for visitors.

BLM values public input and looks forward to hearing from the community regarding these proposed changes. For more information, please contact the Dillon Field Office or visit the ePlanning website.
