LOVELOCK, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comment on a preliminary Environmental Assessment for a proposed power line on approximately 55 acres of public lands in Churchill County. If approved, the project will consist of two 345-kilovolt generation-tie transmission lines, buried collector lines, and new access roads.

NV Energy proposed the transmission lines to connect to their Sierra Solar Facility proposed for construction on 3,640 adjacent private acres. The project would allow the company to connect the proposed facility to the grid through the existing Tracy/Valmy transmission lines. A generation tie (gen-tie) is a power line that connects a power source to the transmission system. As proposed, the gen-tie project would result in approximately 11 acres of new surface disturbance and utilize 44 acres of existing roads to access the project area.

Additional information is available for review at the BLM National NEPA Register. Comments may be submitted through the “Participate Now” option (preferred), or mailed to Bureau of Land Management, Attn: Sierra Solar Utilities Project, 1340 Financial Blvd., Reno, NV 89502. The comment period will close November 8, 2024.
