BLM releases Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument proposed management plan
BLM announces its Proposed Resource Management Plan and final Environmental Impact Statement for managing nearly 1.87 million acres of public lands within the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.
The proposed plan provides a comprehensive framework for management actions, focusing on protecting monument objects amid rising visitation levels. It also analyzes impacts on clean air, clean water, and wildlife habitat, while safeguarding priceless cultural, geological, and paleontological resources, ensuring continuation of traditional uses of religious or cultural sites within monument boundaries.
Publication of the Notice of Availability initiates both a 30-day protest period and 60-day Governor’s Consistency Review.
The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation.
