BLM issues emergency closure at Jump Creek Recreation site due to wildfire danger

MARSING, IdahoThe Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Owyhee Field Office is temporarily closing some BLM-managed public lands in Owyhee County, due to the risk of the nearby Jump Fire. This closure is essential to ensure public and firefighter safety and to allow fire fighting crews to respond effectively. This closure will remain in effect until the risk of wildland fire subsides.

The temporary closure includes the BLM-managed Jump Creek Recreation Site, located seven miles southwest of Marsing in southwestern Idaho. This order does not include private land.  

The Jump Fire is believed to have been sparked by lightening on Monday, August 5, approximately 15 miles south and southwest of Marsing. At the time of this announcement, the fire has burned roughly 12,000 acres of grass and brush with 0%containment.

Public and wildland firefighter safety are BLM’s highest priority. Please be aware that firefighting crews and emergency vehicles will be in the area and on the roadways. Do not drive into smoke.
