The Bureau of Land Management has extended withdrawal protections for the 60-acre Wisdom Administrative Site outside Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest in Beaverhead County for another 20 years.

The site has been used by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service since the lands were originally protected in 1985 by Public Land Order 6560. The current protections were extended under Public Land Order 7610 in 2004.

The withdrawal protects the lands from all forms of appropriation and entry under the general land laws and U.S. mining laws, subject to valid existing rights, and reserves the land for continued Forest Service use.

The BLM processes federal land withdrawal requests on behalf of the Secretary of the Interior. The agency published a notice in the Federal Register on July 7, 2023, which opened a 90-day comment period.

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. Our mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
