BLM Government-to-Government Consultation for review of the BLM’s National Programmatic Agreement for the National Historic Preservation Act

On June 23,2023, the BLM sent letters to Tribal Governments with information on participating in Government-to-Government consultation(s) as the BLM seeks to  update its National Programmatic Agreement for National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) implementation. The NHPA, in part, protects historic properties such as indigenous and euromerican sites and architecture. Signatories to the agreement include the BLM, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP), and the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers (NCSHPO). The current agreement, signed in 2012, will expire in February 2024 and the BLM intends to revise the National Programmatic Agreement based upon Tribal, public, and signatory consultation, and to extend it an additional 10 years.  View the list of Tribes and  Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971 (ANCSA) Native Corporations invited to participate.
