Sales Program

Wild horses and burros more than 10 years old – as well as younger animals that have been offered for adoption at least three times – are eligible for sale. Sale-eligible animals may be available for purchase at wild horse and burro adoption/sale events, at off-range corrals, and on the Online Corral, but the availability of sale-eligible animals cannot be guaranteed. 

Purchasing a wild horse or burro means that ownership of the animal passes immediately from the federal government to the buyer. It has been and remains the policy of the BLM not to sell or send any wild horses or burros to slaughter, and purchasers must certify on their application that they intend to provide good care to their purchased animal(s). Proceeds from the sales of wild horses and burros are used for the BLM's wild horse and burro adoption program, as directed by Congress. 

Titles of ownership are not provided for purchased animals; rather, a Bill of Sale will be provided at the time of purchase. Download sample bill of sale and carefully review the clauses.
