Hog Springs Recreation Area
Located in Red Rock Canyon and surrounded by the slick, red walls of southern Utah's desert, this beautiful picnic area is right off the Bicentennial Scenic Byway. It is a perfect place to pull off the road, take a few minutes to enjoy the sights and sounds of the canyon, and even have a picnic.
The area offers a wonderful view of the Henry Mountains, and ancient pictographs and petroglyphs dot canyon walls. From the picnic area, a primitive trail will take you a mile up canyon to a refreshing waterfall and pool.
This popular site consists of a suspended bridge, shade structures, picnic tables, grills, restroom, sidewalks, and interpretive kiosks. It is designated for day use.
Accessibility Description (ABA/ADA)
The parking area for the site has 10 paved, striped parking spaces, 2 of which are designated as accessible. There are 2 accessible gender-specific pit toilets adjacent to the parking area. There is no running water at this site.
A short, paved sidewalk leads from the parking lot across a wood-plank suspension bridge to 2 picnic pavilions. The suspension bridge has a slight incline, but the slope is less than 5 percent. The shade structures each cover a picnic table that sits on a concrete pad. Although the tables don’t have the extended ends, they should provide enough space to accommodate a person in a wheelchair. The site also has grills that are low to the ground and sit on concrete. Although the picnic areas were not designed with accessibility in mind, they should be accessible to some mobility-impaired visitors—the photos included on this page can help each party determine whether to use the site.
Near the pavilions are angled interpretive signs that can be read by visitors using wheelchairs or other mobility devices.
The hiking trail that starts just beyond the picnic areas is not accessible.
