POCATELLO, Idaho – The BLM is hosting an open house meeting in Paris, Idaho, on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017, to discuss the proposed Fish Haven South Fuels Reduction Project. The meeting will be held at the School District Office Boardroom located at 39 Fielding Rd., Paris, ID 83261, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend the meeting to ask questions and learn more about the proposed project.
Wildland fire is becoming increasingly prevalent in the west, catastrophically impacting communities and public lands. To mitigate the impact, the Bureau of Land Management Pocatello Field Office is proposing to connect the fuel break currently implemented by the Bear Lake Soil and Water Conservation District to public lands managed by the BLM around the Bear Lake West subdivision.
The purpose of the project is to protect lives and property within the wildland urban interface from the risk of wildland fire. The treatments considered would be designed to reduce fuels such as heavy juniper growth and create fire breaks to aid in wildland fire suppression.
Written comments on the proposal may be submitted at the open house or mailed to the BLM Pocatello Field Office, 4350 Cliffs Drive, Pocatello, ID 83204. For mailed written comments to be considered, they must be submitted to the BLM Pocatello Field Office on or before Jan. 5, 2018.
