MORENO VALLEY, Calif. - Bureau of Land Management (BLM) law enforcement officers will be conducting driving under the influence (DUI) and registration checkpoints at several locations within Imperial County from Dec. 29 through Jan. 2 between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m.
Checkpoints are placed in locations based on traffic statistics and high visitor use areas. Locations are chosen with safety considerations for the public and the officers in mind.
The BLM wants visitors to have a safe and enjoyable experience on public lands. Impaired drivers not only risk their own safety but those people around them, so it’s important to designate a sober driver.
The deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints is a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes. Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are conducted routinely.
Law enforcement officers are reminding everyone to ‘Report Drunk Drivers - Call 9-1-1'.
The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. Our mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
