SILT, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management announced today that Larry Sandoval is the new field manager for the Colorado River Valley Field Office based in Silt.

Sandoval will oversee the 60 employees who work in the 567,000-acre Colorado River Valley Field Office, which includes BLM lands and minerals in parts of Eagle, Garfield, Mesa, Pitkin and Routt counties.

“Larry brings a wealth of experience as both a resource specialist and a manager. He has a proven track record for building and maintaining relationships with communities and partners, and he knows this area and its issues well,” said Northwest District Manager Andrew Archuleta.

Sandoval worked for the White River National Forest from 2001 to 2006, first as a soil scientist then as the Assistant District Ranger for the Rifle Ranger District. This included a role as the Forest Service liaison to the Glenwood Springs Pilot Energy Office, which is now part of the Colorado River Valley Field Office.

“I am thrilled to be returning to this very special place,” Sandoval said.  “The local communities and outdoor opportunities in the surrounding landscape are a perfect fit for me and my family.  The diverse and cherished natural resources within the Colorado River Valley Field Office are for the enjoyment, use and benefit of our diverse public. I am excited and ready to engage with the staff and public we serve. ”

Larry was previously the natural resources staff officer on the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest in Oregon. He has also held positions as the public affairs specialist and district ranger for the Medicine Bow Routt National Forest in Wyoming, and district ranger for the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in Wisconsin.

Sandoval was born in Colorado and earned a bachelor’s degree in natural resources management from Colorado State University.
