WINNEMUCCA FIELD OFFICE NO. 2008-11 PUBLIC COMMENTS SOUGHT ON BARRETT SPRINGS CLAY DEPOSIT PLAN OF OPERATIONS AMENDMENT The plan of operations proposed by Calico LLC located 10 miles northwest of Winnemucca in Humboldt County, has been released by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Winnemucca Field Office for public review and comment. The document is available for viewing at the BLM’s Winnemucca Field Office, 5100 East Winnemucca Blvd, Winnemucca, NV 89445 during regular business hours. Written comments should be received in the Winnemucca Field Office by close of business Friday, February 29, 2008. Email comments may be sent to wfoweb@nv.blm.gov with Barrett Springs Project in the subject line. Calico LLC has proposed to deepen an existing clay pit by ten feet for additional 22,000 cubic yards of clay and 1.34 acres of surface disturbance. The pit was last mined in the early 1980’s to the early 1990’s under a notice. The clay would be mined with a loader and semi with a 20 ton trailer or tandem trailers. The clay would be mined as needed for up to the next 20 years. Total disturbance associated with this project would be 3.12 acres. In the near future the BLM will prepare an environmental assessment (EA) for this project. The public is encouraged to participate in this process and submit comments that will assist the BLM in the preparation of the EA. Anyone wishing to receive a copy of the EA should submit a written request to the BLM Winnemucca Field Office, Attn Barrett Springs Project. Those submitting comments should be aware that before including their address, phone number, e-mail address, or other personal identifying information in their comment, that their entire comment - including personal identifying information - may be made publicly available at any time. While they can ask BLM in their comment to withhold personal identifying information from public review, BLM cannot guarantee that it will be able to do so. Anonymity is not allowed for submissions from organizations or businesses and from individuals identifying themselves as representatives or officials of organizations or businesses. For further information or comment, contact Scott Richey, Surface Protection Specialist, at 775-623-1525, or by email at: scott_richey@nv.blm.gov. |
