Closure Order Lifted for Public Lands at Fort Stanton
The BLM Roswell Office has lifted the closure order for public lands at Fort Stanton but Stage 2 fire restrictions remain in place for that area.  In addition, Stage 1 fire restrictions are in place for public land in Lincoln, Chaves, Lea, DeBaca, Guadalupe, Roosevelt, and Eddy Counties.

The BLM has approved a plan to protect two rare species of wildlife in southeastern New Mexico and enhance their habitat on public lands.  The BLM will adopt major elements of a conservation strategy for the lesser prairie-chicken and sand dune lizard and add measures to increase habitat protection for them. 

Agreement To Fund Studies of Early Human History
A new program involving the BLM, State Historic Preservation Office, and the oil and gas industry will provide funding for research and educational studies of historic and cultural sites in southeast New Mexico.

Fire Restrictions in Las Cruces District
The BLM Las Cruces District Office has issued Stage 1 fire restrictions for public land in Otero, Luna, Dona Ana, Sierra, Grant and Hidalgo Counties.

Rio Puerco Field Office Begins Planning Effort

Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep Released in Rio Grande Gorge – The First Release on BLM Lands in New Mexico!
The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, working with the Bureau of Land Management and the Taos Pueblo, have augmented a population of Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep in the Rio Grande Gorge north of the Orilla Verde Recreation Area.
